From looking at American movies, as far as I can see you can date more than one person at the same time without being seen as cheating.
So this seems a bit weird to me but I know some people here who would also practise this form of dating and they say you can even kiss your dates (and I’m not sure how much else) and still not feel like you’re cheating!
So I’m wondering if this IS in fact a common thing in America or if it’s just the practice portrayed in the media. I’m not in any way prudish but I do have a natural strong level of loyalty and this sort of thing would probably kill me with sorrow if I happened to discover that a girlfriend was dating other guys so it’s just something I wondered about.
And when would you narrow it down to just the one boyfriend?
A lot of things in the movies are lies, unfortunately that one isn’t. People here tend to date more guys at once or more girls at once, but once they settle down with a boy friend, it usually stops there. (IE no more dating around) But people tend to slip up and keep up relationships, or they tend to be unfaithful on purpose because they just don’t care. Cheating isn’t a common thing that people think is OK. It is actually frowned upon by most people.
Me personally I don’t date more than one person at a time, and if I don’t feel this would work out I stop dating them and move on. So I wouldn’t be sure how long it takes people to narrow down, since I don’t do that myself.
